I want to make clear that I'm not blaming the talented Apple engineers who obviously worked their butts off on Catalina just like they do every release. But it was enough time to capture all of these papercuts and combine them into one truly-awful über screenshot. I only spent about ten minutes on that system today.

Soon after that, I realized that - like with nearly every macOS update - I had been logged out of iCloud, which meant time for a screenshot yet again. I thought it was mildly funny and began arranging all of the permission dialogs so they didn't overlap.Īnd that's when all the "XXXX would like to show notifications" prompts appeared. When I came back about forty minutes later, that's basically how the screen looked. (Glamorous life of a father and all that.) Once the installer finished and I worked my way through the usual post-installation prompts/windows/whatever, I left and took my son to go get a flu shot. I took it after upgrading an existing Mojave system to Catalina this afternoon.

One of the things that seems a bit weird about the Twitter for Mac app is that on closing the main window, you end up quitting the app. But there are a few UI elements which have been customised to look different on the Mac. Some parts of the app like the preferences section carries an iOS-like user interface which is understandable. The Twitter for Mac app certainly doesn't feel like a native app. Twitter is leveraging its existing iOS codebase while promising to add native Mac features on top of the iPad app.
The new Twitter for Mac app is based on the Project Catalyst framework. The app is available only for macOS Catalina users.Įarlier during this year's WWDC, Twitter had announced its support for the framework, saying it will bring back its app to the Mac. Twitter for Mac is now back on the Mac App Store as a free download starting today. The company changes its stance earlier this year with an announcement that Twitter will return on the Mac, thanks to Apple's Project Catalyst which will allow the company to port its iPad app easily to the Mac.
In 2018, Twitter decided to kill its native Mac app, claiming it was not sustainable to maintain two separate codebases.
